My Investment Strategy – How I Built a Diversified Portfolio
Key Market Insights
When I first started investing in the stock market, I broke the barrier of fear entering the financial world. Over time, I realized the importance of diversifying my investments to minimize risk and ensure stability. With the current market situation, global uncertainties, and economic shifts, I knew I had to spread my investments across multiple assets. As the saying goes, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."
My strategy revolves around what I call the "Four Horsemen of Investing" — four investment pillars that complement each other and provide financial security over time. These investments did not happen all at once; rather, they were built gradually based on market conditions and my financial situation.
The First Horseman: The Stock Market (International and Local)
My first step in investing was in the US stock market, as I mentioned in my previous posts. After gaining experience and confidence, I expanded to the UAE stock market. My approach to the local market is like a high-yield savings account with two main benefits:
- ✔ Capital Growth – Over time, the value of the shares increases. For example, I bought Emaar stock in 2022, and now in 2024, my investment has grown by +120%.
- ✔ Dividend Income – The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) offers great dividend yields, reaching up to 7% in companies like Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Emaar.
This means I am now open to both international and local stock markets, reducing risk and taking advantage of growth and passive income.
The Second Horseman: Gold – The Safe Haven
While monitoring market trends, I saw gold prices rising rapidly. Recognizing its ability as a long-term store of value, I decided to start buying physical gold as a savings tool.
- ✔ I started in January 2023, allocating 600 AED per month to buy 2 grams of 22k gold.
- ✔ Later, I switched to 24k gold due to its higher purity.
- ✔ Now, after two years, I own 23 grams of 22k gold and 38 grams of 24k gold.
Gold acts as a hedge against inflation and provides financial security in times of economic downturns.
The Third Horseman: Real Estate Crowdfunding
I believe crowdfunding in real estate investing is the future in the Arabian Gulf. Instead of buying a whole property, I started investing in fractional ownership of apartments through a crowdfunding platform.
- ✔ My goal was to invest 1000 AED monthly to buy rental apartments.
- ✔ Now, I own shares in more than 14 apartments, giving me a net rental yield of 5% annually.
This form of real estate investing allows me to earn passive income while reducing the risks and hurdles associated with traditional property ownership.
The Fourth Horseman: Cash Savings for Future Investments
Some might not consider saving cash an investment, but in my strategy, it plays a vital role. I made a rule that none of my investments will be sold until I reach retirement age, which means I need a separate fund for unexpected opportunities or emergencies.
- ✔ Cash reserves give me the flexibility to seize investment opportunities.
- ✔ They ensure I never have to sell assets during financial emergencies.
- ✔ They allow me to make major purchases without disturbing my investment portfolio.
Why I Am Sharing This Strategy
Some might wonder why I share my investment journey openly. The truth is, it's hard to find genuine, honest guidance on investing. When I started, I struggled to get practical, free advice from experienced investors.
- ✔ My goal is to educate and help others interested in investing.
- ✔ Money is available to everyone - but not everyone knows how to access it.
- ✔ If you have knowledge, share it - because the financial journey is easier when we learn from each other.
